A sombre rendezvous...

It was a windy evening...another day in her life had come to a close and she was returning back from work. Another hectic day at the supermarket...everyday the same monotonous work..like the gnawing of mouse. Everyday it took something little from her.She wanted to break free but then...it was not so easy. She had to carry on...she didn't have a choice. She didn't like the wind blowing and disheveling her hair. She wanted to look good...she was going to a dinner party after a long time. She didn't want to miss out this one...she wanted to see the new faces.

She didn't like crowds or talking to strangers...even talking with acquaintances sometimes...it irked her at times. "Why am I like this?...stupid question Genevieve!! Now don't think too much and get inside the restaurant...it's getting cold!" The bells were tinkering in the cosy restaurant...and little candles lit up each table. She liked the ambiance. She knew some of the faces wouldn't like it...it's too small, they would say.She was early..."for once Genevieve, you are early.Great job!"

The faces started showing...one by one. She was as usual cordial with them. Nothing struck a chord, she didn't feel any sense of belongingness. But she promised herself..she would enjoy this one. For herself.Greetings were changed, the usual banter started...something she didn't find interesting. As usual the common question for her was.. "Genny darling..where have you been? We haven't seen you for ages!!" As if they cared.

She was glad when the drinks came. She was chatting with someone close by...when the bells tinkered again.A gush of wind came in and... a new face. There were three new faces but she noticed one.She didn't know why.Never mind. She was happy with the little rock that glowed on her finger.Content.He introduced himself to her..Steven Templeton. She was never comfortable with too many people around and somehow it seemed that he understood this. He tried to talk to her at times..in between spoonfuls...like a sinusoidal curve. She responded back...in fact..she liked talking with him."That's strange of you , Genevieve. You don't even know him." Never mind....

They shared some common interests...he wanted to become a singer and she wanted to open a book shop.Common was both of them didn't like their jobs. He wanted to learn to play the guitar and she wanted to learn French. Both of them loved to travel...the conversation ended with a dessert. They didn't laugh often but smiled
sometimes. Very formal. He was the only new face she spoke with...as if no one existed in that room. But that's because he was sitting just across her.

The dinner was over and she thought she enjoyed it. Again greetings were exchanged and she went her way.She didn't notice where he went. Neither did he....or so she thought.Nothing special. Just a dinner. She had a long day ahead tomorrow...again. She was lost in her thoughts while going home. But she remembered his face. She still didn't know why.....
